As anyone with a home brewing hobby will tell you, you could end up collecting quite a bit of kit and if you stay in an apartment like me you most likely do not have a garage or backyard space. One of the best "investments" I have made so far is to get a nice roomy Addis container to store all my bits out of the kitchen and out of everyone's way. But this device holds an additional benefit I discovered this weekend and trust me, you will want to do this too!!! If you have a mate that is also keen on brewing or perhaps you are not sure what to do for your buddy on his birthday or worse yet, maybe your buddy is bored when the gals are out having their hair did or whatever. Well, now you can turn that container into your MOBILE BREWING KIT and go brew some beer with your bud at his house! Imagine how cool it would be to go hang out with a good mate, spending a day talking about man stuff while drinking and brewing a unique pint. This is everything that beer and home brewing embodies for me - a unique and real experience! Sharing in the passion and joy of brewing your first pint - creating something with your own hands. Nothing beats that feeling. So with this crazy idea in mind, I packed my most critical equipment into my Addis (and my cooler mash) and set off to my mate's place in the 'burbs, who is very interested in starting brewing as a hobby himself. What an amazing experience to share with someone - especially someone that is actually interested in the process and learning about brewing. We brewed an extract as that process, I believe, is easiest when you have minimum equipment and usually works out quite well. We followed a basic recipe that I have adapted from one of my previous posts and, like any lacky worth his salt, Ryan was made to do just about everything. Although this did not deter him one bit and I must testify that he did excellently for his first time. In fact I think he was more keen - and maybe even a bit better - than me to get going...pretty sure (well, hopefully) it is because he had me as his Mr. Miyagi. I showed this man the way of the grain and now his life is forever changed... This was so painless and fun that we have decided to get together much more regularly to get our brew on...truthfully we are already trying to think of what we are going to call our little operation and how we can maybe expand into something more permanent and larger scale. Keep an eye out for the next post where I outline my mobile brewing kit so you can give it a go as it is well worth it! Massive shout out to my buddy, Ryan and his wifey, Lee both for hosting us and for taking some pics of us having a jol! Oh, and also glad you and my lady had some fun while we were conquering the grain world and discussing our paintball domination plans...BRING IT ON!!! * UPDATE: this is one of the videos I received from Ryan the following day showing our little creation bubbling away...I remember that excitement on my first brew. It crushes me to tell him that we have to wait two to three weeks before we even bottle...
